Ø VICTERS: (Versatile ICT Enabled Resource for Students) - India's first channel entirely for education purpose through EDUSAT network, inaugurated by   ‘A P J Abdul Kalam’ the former President of India on 28th July, 2005 in Thiruvananthapuram

Ø Target Group: Entire educational community including teachers, students and parents.

·        The scheme which is being executed by IT@School Project of Government of Kerala, is mainly intended for an Interactive Satellite based Distance Education system for the country.

·        The EDUSAT-based educational channels will also be used to expose the children of Kerala to educational and cultural values.

·        Under the VICTERS program, students will soon be able to watch educational content from their homes.

·        The program has incorporated Video Streaming technology, which would enable students, teachers and general public to watch the channel ‘LIVE’ through internet from any part of the world.

·        VICTERS would be available ‘Live’ in the website http://www.victers.itschool.gov.in/ and entire programs telecast in the channel 17 hours a day from 6am to 11pm could be viewed.

·        The Education Department has been able to reach IT-enabled education to 54,000 teachers and 25lakh students through the EDUSAT project.

·        The channel reaches out to as many as 12,500 schools and about 50lakhs children and covers almost entire households in the State.

·        The department will focus on setting up district-level resource centers to aid the spread of IT-enabled education in the State.

2.     IMPORTANCE

ü VICTERS is the only complete educational channel of the State which telecast programs of

o   educational value

o   General awareness programs

o   And content on general interest and is fast becoming the most sought channel by students, parents, teachers and general public.

ü VICTERS telecast specific curriculum based programs, regional, national and international programs on education especially on Science and Technology.

ü It is sensitive to school curriculum and even time-table.

ü VICTERS offers interactive virtual classrooms that enable the school students as well as the teachers to directly communicate with the subject experts and educationists.

ü  It also ensures the dissemination of high quality education to the students and teachers from the original source.

ü The up gradation of the channel would benefit lakhs of students in the state as well as those in Lakshadweep and Gulf region who studies the State syllabus. 

ü It caters to students and teachers on a need based manner.

ü It successfully empowers teachers.

    The students could view VICTERS using a computer or a laptop in their classrooms or computer labs, the channel is now available throughout the State through local cable.

    Students could also pick their favorite programs of the week since the program schedule is published in the website a week in advance.

    The popularity of the channel is always on the rise.
